For today’s smoothie, I’ve got it packed full of healthy fats (avocado, flax, coconut milk, chia seeds). This is a GREAT option for anyone dealing with hypoglycemia or insulin resistance.
Healthy fats are super important in any smoothie. Often it’s the macronutrient that’s missing, and even though we might have a lot of healthy fruits and veggies in our smoothie, we are counteracting much of the concentrated micronutrient benefits by spiking our blood sugars (which puts stress on our bodies).
So, what exactly do fats do…
I’ll give you my 3 favorite reasons for eating healthy fats:
- They help slow down the blood sugar surge (as does the cinnamon in this smoothie).
- They are a slower burning source of energy, therefore, they help you stay full or longer. This helps with over-eating in a day and also helps curb cravings (unlike a carbohydrate-dominant meal).
- They make food taste good!!
