This has been a labor of love. I tell my story of drug addiction to holistic nutrition and focus much of the content on practical solutions – to give you, my community – a practical roadmap to begin making positive changes in your life!
Today I wanted to talk a little bit more about the word “recovery”, as I’ve been using that word a lot lately.
I think it’s worth clarifying here that you don’t have to be recovering from drug and alcohol addiction to be “in recovery”, or to benefit from the holistic nutrition pathway I talk about in my book.
I just love this simple definition:
Having a physical addiction to chemical substances was my wake-up call. Everyday I had the urge to return to a normal state of health, mind, or strength.
So many of us feel “off” but we can’t quite explain why. I felt this way for years before I even developed addictions.
I came to find out in my process of recovery following rehab, that the reasons I felt so “off” were largely due to my poor nutrition, compromised digestion, food allergies, and emotional traumas.
Just because I quit using drugs didn’t mean I got to bounce back effortlessly to feeling great again. I needed to recover my energies – in body, mind, and spirit.
I needed a plan, I needed tools, I needed a system to recover.
That system is what I call holistic nutrition for recovery. It includes all the tools I use as a part of my daily living. These tools allow me to THRIVE in my recovery!
And most days, my recovery actually goes beyond simply feeling “normal” – most days I have moments of feeling downright f*ing AMAZING!
I might not be battling the urge to use drugs today, but I still have a lot to work on.
Only today, I have a plan. That plan is laid out in the chapters of my book. I rely on these tools on a daily basis, and I hope they can bring you just as much relief and recovery as they have brought me.
